Technical Details of the Tascam CD-400U DAB

The Tascam CD-400U DAB is housed in a compact 1U chassis and offers broad support for various audio formats. In addition to playing traditional audio CDs, MP3 and WMA files can also be played directly from CD. The player offers even greater flexibility thanks to its support for USB and SD storage media: MP3, AAC, WAV, and WMA files are automatically recognized and played.

A real highlight is the built-in DAB+/FM radio tuner, which allows you to receive both digital and analog radio. Playback can be routed through either separate or shared output jacks. Thanks to the built-in Bluetooth 4.2 interface, music files can also be streamed wirelessly from smartphones, tablets, or computers. It supports common profiles and codecs such as A2DP, AVRCP, SBC, AAC, and aptX—for high-quality wireless streaming.

Another advantage of the CD-400U DAB is the ability to copy content directly from a CD or the radio to a connected USB or SD storage device. This recording feature is ideal for archiving or creating custom playlists. In addition, playback starts automatically when power is supplied—a particularly useful feature for installations in continuous operation or in public spaces.

The media player is also user-friendly in terms of operation: number keys allow for direct track selection, while various playback modes—such as single, shuffle, repeat, or incremental playback—offer maximum flexibility. A resume function ensures that playback resumes from the last point where it was paused after a restart.

The rear panel features numerous professional connections: XLR and RCA main outputs for balanced and unbalanced signals, a RCA output for the radio, a headphone output with a volume control on the front panel, and an RS-232C interface for remote control. Optionally, the player can be expanded with an Ethernet card (IF-100E) to allow for remote control via a network (Telnet)—perfect for AV integrators.

Measuring 483 x 47 x 296 mm (W x H x D) and weighing only 3.3 kg, the unit can be integrated into 19-inch racks to save space. Power consumption is 20 W, and the unit supports AC voltages from 100 to 240 V, making it ideal for international use. An IR remote control is included, allowing for convenient operation even from a distance.
